FAQs

What about the…?

Questions we get asked anyway

We get asked a lot of questions — which is completely understandable when you’re planning a holiday in one of our Châteaux. While the other pages on the site cover most of what you’ll want to know, this FAQ brings the most common ones together in one place.

Practical details about where things are and how they work (appliances, WiFi, heating,  etc.) live in our Digital Guidebooks. You’ll receive access once your booking is confirmed.

Booking and availability

Are you the owners of the Châteaux or an agency?

Yes — we are the owners of all three Châteaux. Kasteliades is a small family company — not an agency or tour operator. We personally own, manage, and look after the properties ourselves.

We almost exclusively take direct bookings which keeps our prices the lowest available anywhere. There are no intermediaries or extra layers — when you book with us you can book with confidence, knowing you’re dealing directly with the owners who know these houses best.

Can we rent the Château for less than a week?

Our rentals run on full seven-night periods with a one-week minimum stay.

In low season we can occasionally be more flexible with shorter stays if the dates are still available within 60 days of arrival. If that’s what you’re looking for, just get in touch before making a reservation request and we’ll see what’s possible. It’s also worth checking this website for any last-minute promotions.

Do you offer flexible arrival days?

No — each Château runs on its own fixed weekly rhythm with departures and arrivals for each property as follows:

  • Château de Montsymond : Fridays to Fridays

  • Chateau de Montrevost : Saturdays to Saturdays

  • Château de Burnand : Mondays to Mondays

In certain cases we can accommodate a different arrival or departure day within the reservation week (for example, Wednesday to Monday for Château de Burnand), but the full weekly rate always applies, even if your actual occupation is shorter. Please contact us before submitting your reservation request to ask if we can plan for this.

Is it possible to rent just a few rooms?

No — Kasteliades Châteaux are rented on an exclusive-use basis only. That means the whole Château and grounds, just for you and your guests — the freedom and privacy of having the place entirely to yourselves. We do not offer individual rooms or partial rentals like a traditional hotel.

Can we book the Château for a wedding, large event or parties?

No — we don’t host weddings, large events and organised parties, hen and stag weekends, or student groups.

Our Châteaux are private holiday homes and are not adapted for events or large organised gatherings. They are intended for relaxed stays with family and friends, where guests can enjoy the property and the region together at their own pace.

Small personal celebrations within your own group — a wedding anniversary, a milestone birthday and so on — are of course very welcome. This keeps the atmosphere peaceful and personal, which is what suits the houses best.

Are you open all year?

No — our main season runs from early April to late October (exact start and end dates vary slightly by Château).

Château de Montrevost and Château de Montsymond are also available for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period.

For the precise opening and closing dates each year, please see our Rates & availability page.

How far in advance do we need to book?

Planning a group holiday with family and friends takes real time and coordination. Once you’ve done the hard work of getting everyone aligned, you’ll naturally want to lock those dates in as soon as possible.

Our Châteaux tend to book up very early. Most guests aim for at least 18 months ahead, and many book even sooner. We open bookings for a new season roughly 18 months before the season starts, for example: for the 2028 season starting in April, bookings open in November 2026. High season dates get booked quickly and most weeks are fully booked by the end of October the year before.

It can feel like quite a commitment, we know. But once your dates are confirmed, the whole Château is yours for the week and you can relax knowing everything is set.

Why can’t I book directly online or block dates on the calendar?

Our calendars show current availability, but you’ll notice there’s no instant booking or payment option. Instead, we ask you to send a reservation request via a simple online form, which also includes a short description of the type of holiday you have in mind. That simply helps us make sure the Château is a good fit for what you’re looking for before we confirm the dates. We reply within 24 hours .

It’s a slightly old-fashioned way of doing things, we know, but it helps us entrust the keys to guests who will enjoy the properties as much as we do and treat them with care.

What is your cancellation policy?

When we confirm a reservation we send you an email with a simple contract to sign. To secure the dates we ask for a 25% deposit, payable within 48 hours. This deposit is non-refundable in the event of cancellation.

We know plans can change, which is why we strongly recommend you take out comprehensive travel insurance that includes cancellation cover as soon as you book. It’s the best way to protect your deposit and your holiday. Full terms are set out clearly in the contract we send you.

Do you accept bookings from tour operators?

We work with a small number of independent specialist tour operators who run accompanied, themed stays for their clients (for example Burgundy wine tours…). If you are a specialist tour operator interested in booking our Châteaux for your clients, please contact us by mail before submitting a reservation request.

How our Château rentals work

Are the Châteaux like hotels?

No — our Châteaux are not like hotels. There is no reception, concierge, restaurant, bar or daily cleaning and housekeeping. We rent each house on a self-catering, exclusive-use basis — exactly as you might rent a large private home or apartment. You have the entire place to yourselves, with full access to the kitchen, living spaces, bedrooms and gardens for the duration of your holiday.

Do you provide catering or meals?

We rent our Chateaux on a self-catering basis. We don’t provide meals or shopping services. Our spacious kitchens are equipped to a high standard and cooking is sure to be a big part of the fun during your holiday. You can check out the kitchen inventory here.

Can you arrange a chef for us?

We recommend three excellent local chefs who regularly cook at our Châteaux. They do not offer a full-board service (three meals a day, seven days a week) and are best suited for those special meals during your stay.

Whilst we don't make bookings or act as an intermediary on your behalf, we provide all the details for you to arrange everything directly with the chef. Full  information can be found on the Enhance your stay page.

Are there food delivery services nearby?

There are no Deliveroo, Uber Eats or similar services where our Châteaux are located. Take-away options from restaurants are also rare.

Is daily cleaning included?

No — daily cleaning and housekeeping are not included. Each Château is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for your arrival — interior, exterior and pool. After that, the house is yours — you live in it, cook in it, relax in it, exactly as you would in a private home.

We do offer a Premium service option which includes a midweek clean and a fresh towel change, a pool towel pack and cleaning help at check-out. This can be booked at the initial reservation stage or added later.

If you’d like additional cleaning during your stay, we have two trusted members of our cleaning team who can help through their own independent companies. Details are provided in our Digital Guidebooks.

Is end of stay cleaning included?

Yes — end-of-stay cleaning is included… with just a little help from you! Our professional team handles the heavy lifting so you’re not scrubbing floors or bathrooms on your last morning. We simply ask you to leave the house tidy — kitchen cleared, dishes done, a quick general sort-out. Nothing too heroic.

Full details of exactly what we do and where you come in can be found on our Included in your stay page.

If you add the Premium service option, one of our team will pop in on departure morning (between 08h30 and 09h30) to help you in the kitchen.

Around the house

Is there air-conditioning?

Yes — all the bedrooms in our Châteaux have reversible air conditioning — cooling in summer and heating when needed — except the children’s bedrooms.

Is there WiFi?

Yes — all three Châteaux have high-speed fibre-optic internet with a full WiFi 6 network. We recently upgraded the system with multiple access points throughout the houses and on the outdoor terraces, so coverage is strong almost everywhere, including the pool area. It’s fast, reliable, and of course included in your stay.

Is the swimming pool heated?

Yes — all our swimming pools are heated. The pools are open from April through October, with the heating system running whenever the air temperature allows it to work efficiently (generally above 15°C). In the very early and late parts of the season, cooler nights may mean we switch the heating off temporarily to protect the equipment.

Each pool also has a sliding acrylic dome cover, so you can swim even on cooler days and the children stay safe when it’s closed.

What's included in the kitchen?

Pretty much everything we hope you’ll need to cook, bake, and enjoy great meals together — even a paella pan (whilst not French cuisine, admittedly, it's perfect for feeding the whole group with minimum fuss and too many chefs here won't spoil the broth!).

You’ll find a generous workspace, professional range cooker, lots of appliances, plenty of pots, pans, ovenware, dishes, glasses and utensils — plus dishwashers to do the heavy lifting after dinner. All the practical bits that make self-catering enjoyable rather than a chore.

See this pop-up for the  Kitchen inventory

Is house linen provided?

Yes — all bed linen, bathroom towels and shower mats are provided, and the beds are made up ready for your arrival. You’ll also find white cotton tablecloths and napkins for the dining room, plus tea towels for the kitchen. Full details are on our Included in your stay page.

We also have a range of add-on packs with extra sets of linen and towels if you’d like them — see here.

Are the Châteaux suitable for children?

Very much so! Children tend to vanish outdoors remarkably quickly here. Between the swimming pool, playground, trampoline, mini-golf and long games of hide-and-seek in the Château parks, there’s usually plenty to keep them occupied for hours at a time. Finally some free time for you!

For many, the Château becomes a place of adventure and exploration too — somewhere children roam freely, invent games, and remember long afterwards. Meanwhile, the secluded, fully enclosed grounds, safely away from busy roads, allow everyone else to relax a little more as well.

Is there a cot/high chair available?

Yes — we provide up to three cots and high chairs in each Château, free of charge.

Can we park at the Château?

Yes — each Château has on site parking, with space for 8–10 cars immediately adjacent to the building.

Is there a charging point for EVs?

Yes — each of our Châteaux has a Legrand Green'Up charging socket outside the house, with a French connector.

It’s a slow-charge system (you should allow up to 24 hours for an 80% charge), but it’s convenient for a top-up and completely free during your stay.

For faster charging, there are good public fast chargers in the area, including at many larger supermarkets and at dedicated charging sites.

Can we invite extra friends for an evening during our stay?

No, unfortunately not. The maximum sleeping capacity of each Château applies to the entire property, including the gardens and park. We cannot accommodate any additional non-resident guests — even for a lunch or evening dinner— if it would cause the total number of people on site to exceed this capacity.

Are pets allowed?

No — unfortunately we’re unable to accommodate pets at any of our Châteaux. This is mainly for hygiene and allergy reasons and we want to keep the houses fresh and comfortable for everyone.

Arrival and stay

How do we get to the Château from the airport?

We don’t organise travel or transfers ourselves, but our Travel guide page has detailed recommendations for the best airports, train options, car hire, and reliable taxi or private transfer companies — see here.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 15h00.
If you arrive between 15h00 and 17h00, one of our team will be there to welcome you and give you a full guided tour of the Château.

For arrivals after 17h00 we have a simple self-check-in procedure (we’ll send you all the details in advance).

Check-out is by 09h30 on your departure day.

Can we check in early or check out late?

Early check-in is not usually possible. We need a good 5 hours after the previous guests depart at 09h30 to clean and prepare the Château to a high standard with a full team.

Early check-out is generally fine between 07h30 and 09h30. Even earlier departures can sometimes be arranged, but please let us know in advance to see if we can accommodate it in our planning.

Is there a welcome pack?

Yes — we provide a practical welcome pack to help you settle in smoothly. Full details of everything provided on arrival can be found on our Included in your stay page.

Important: We do not provide any groceries — food, milk, bread, or drinks, etc. You’ll need to do a supermarket shop either on the way to the Château or shortly after you arrive.

What should we bring with us?

Not a great deal — the Châteaux are very well equipped for your comfort — so you should just plan what personal items you need to bring, in addition to your holiday 'wardrobe' of course! Things to bring include:

  • Special toiletries and medications

  • Camera, memory cards, or other personal electronics

  • Chargers for your devices

  • Electrical plug adaptors for French sockets

  • Your favorite book…

If you don't want to bring bulky pool towels, we provide an option to rent a pack of 20 towels.

Do you have any advice for 'navigating' the first night?

Yes — a little planning for your first evening makes everything smoother. We don’t provide any groceries or ready-made meals, so you’ll need to do a quick supermarket shop either on the way to the Château, or shortly after you arrive, so no-one goes hungry!

Note that food delivery services (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, etc.) don’t operate in our rural area, and restaurant takeaway options are very limited.

Do you provide a concierge service?

No — we don’t offer a concierge service. We don’t arrange bookings, reservations or day-to-day assistance — the kind of services you’d find typically in a hotel.

However, your Digital Guidebook is full of our personal recommendations — restaurants, wine domaines, activities and day trip ideas  — so you have everything you need to organise your week as you wish.

Can you recommend wine tastings and other local activities?

Yes — we have some very good recommendations, especially for wine. Christophe, who owns Kasteliades, is a passionate wine expert. He has put together a selection of wine domaines on our Wine & vineyards page (in the Tourism guide menu). You’ll find his favourite places for tastings, ranging from small family producers to some excellent estates he particularly likes, as well as his recommended guided wine tour companies.

You’ll also find plenty of other activity ideas in the Tourism guide — including heritage sites, local markets, sports and leisure activities, and great days out in Burgundy.

Our Digital Guidebook goes into even more detail and is sent to you once your booking is confirmed.

Who can we contact if we need help during our stay?

We’re here if you need us. You’ll have a dedicated WhatsApp number (for messages or voice calls), which is monitored by four members of our team. We aim to reply quickly during normal hours.

Your first port of call is always the Digital Guidebook — it’s clearly organised and searchable, and answers the vast majority of day-to-day questions.

We also pop by once during the week for the pool check and any small maintenance, so don’t hesitate to mention if something comes up.
