My favorite "wine passionate friendly" local restaurants...

combined with my advice on local visits for a great day in Burgundy.

Burgundy is the heaven of fine wines and gastronomy. There is a vast selection of Michelin starred or simple but great restaurants to choose from. Being a wine expert and wine passionate, I have my favorites amongst those offering a very good value for money Cuisine & a great selection of Top wine producers with reasonnable prices. All these need to be booked in advance. Don't hesitate to recommend yourself from Kasteliades.

The idea of this section of our website is to suggest you how to organize a full or half day combining Gastronomy, Wine, and visiting the best our area has to offer.

Please note that we do not organize any bookings. Contact details to place your bookings for each suggested site in this article are indicated.

1°) Tournus "Michelin star" experience for less than 30 Euros!

+ Visit of Tournus Abbaye, medieval village of Brançion & Renaissance Château de Cormatin.

The restaurant:

This is my favorite Michelin Starred restaurant in the region. The  Chef (Jean-Michel Carrette) is brillant, the service is perfect, the wine card is one of the best in Southern Burgundy at very reasonnable prices compare to other Michelin starred.

Great deal for Lunch from Tuesday to Friday: The “Menu du marché” for 25 Euros (in 2018), just the experience you should not miss during your stay! The degustation menus are very reasonnably priced (65 or 95 euros in 2018 for 6 or 9 courses)

This restaurant is highly popular and needs to be booked in advance. Recommend yourself from Kasteliades for the warmest welcome.

Contact details :AUX TERRASSES. 18 avenue du 23 Janvier, Tournus. Tel 0033 385 510 174. www.aux-terrasses.com. Closed on Sunday & Monday.

You can organize a memorable day around taking lunch there. In the morning visit Tournus Abbaye in the center (it is one of the most beautiful in the region), the visit is free. Have lunch at Aux Terrasses, and then drive 15 minutes to the west for the medieval village of Brancion (see what to see around section of each property) http://www.chateau-de-brancion.com/index.php/fr/.

Then drive 10 minutes further to visit the Chateau de Cormatinhttp://www.chateaudecormatin.com/fr

2°) Olivier Leflaive Wine & Gastronomy experience in Puligny-Montrachet. Commented visit in vineyards & winery + Lunch & Wine tasting. Visit to Hospices de Beaune and Chateau de Savigny les Beaune in the afternoon.

Olivier Leflaive is a wellknown wine producer of the Cote de Beaune. They have their own very good restaurant in the center of Puligny-Montrachet offering a great concept of lunch combined with tasting of their wines and visit of vineyards + winery.

You can book this complete experience for 113 euros pp (in 2018). Available every day except Sunday & Wednesday. Or you can also just go there for lunch. (all details on their website).

9H45: Meet at Olivier Leflaive restaurant. Guided walking tour among the World Heritage listed climats of Puligny-Montrachet (vineyards) accompanied by Oliver Leflaive Sommelier.

The sommelier will explain Terroir, Geology, climate, classification, viticulture in Burgundy...

11H20:  Guided visit of the winery with explanations on harvest, fermentation, barrel aging and bottling. A glass of wine is offered during the visit (which you can keep and take away as a souvenir). Very often the  winery commented visit is done by the owner himself.

12H30: Lunch + 6 wines at Olivier Leflaive restaurant. You can buy their wines to take away if you wish after lunch.

This package must be booked in advance. Recommend yourself from Kasteliades for the warmest welcome.

After lunch I recommend a visit to the Hospices de Beaune (in Beaune) which is about 12 kms from Puligny-Montrachet.

Famous for their auction of wines each year in November, the Hospices de Beaune is, with its marvellous varnished coloured tile roof, one of the most famous sites to visit in Burgundy. Apart from it’s own history which is fascinating, the Hospices de Beaune also houses some very fine paintings with amongst others ‘The last Jugement’ by Roger van der Weyden, the leader of religious painting in the 15th century. For more information see http://www.hospices-de-beaune.com/ adress: 2, rue de l'hotel Dieu, BEAUNE

...And conclude your day on the Côte de Beaune with a visit of the Château de Savigny les Beaune, 5 kms from Beaune.

14th century mansion, the castle of Savigny les Beaune, its courtyard and its park, propose to you several museums in one! Hundreds of models: Abarth race cars, motorcycles, fighter jets and helicopters alongside the theme of firefighters, that of straddle tractors or that of wine and wine equipment ... You can even taste the wines of the estate in the vault of the Little castle!

The website of the Castle does not give much information, but this article found on the web is very good:
