7 bedrooms and one child bedroom

4 bedrooms feature a double bed (160x200 cm), while 3 bedrooms have two twin beds (80x200 cm each). On request, the twin beds can be combined to form a 160x200 cm bed. 3 rooms, along with the child's bedroom, are located on the first floor. Four additional bedrooms are on the second floor.

The VIP room on the first floor and all second floor rooms have air-conditioning.

The beds are made up for your arrival.

Two cots are available in the Château (one traditional wooden baby bed and one foldable travel cot).

The Kasteliades VIP bedroom

The VIP bedroom is located on the first floor. Its balcony overlooks the pool and the park beyond.

The child & baby bedroom

The child and baby bedroom, located on the first floor, features :

• A child bed of 80x190cm, incorporating a fun element with a short ladder and a slide

• A chest of drawers which doubles as a changing table.
• A TV set with DVD player (cartoon dvds are available in the living room).
• A shower with water-jet masage function in the tower.

The Bathrooms

The 7 main bedrooms each have their own en-suite bathroom. Stylishly designed with your comfort in mind, each bathroom includes a WC, a washbasin, either a shower or a bath, and a heated towel radiator. Some bedrooms open directly into the bathroom without a door between the two. Towels are provided upon arrival.

Peaceful nights

The château is distant from main roads and any noise disturbances. Additionally, all bedroom walls have been soundproofed to ensure everyone's privacy and a perfect night's sleep.

By the fireside…

The lounge features a fireplace dating back to the 19th century. An electric fireplace system allows you to enjoy cozy evenings around the fire with family or friends, without the hassle of carrying wood and starting the fire. If you prefer a traditional fire, there is another fireplace in the dining room, with wood provided free of charge during the colder seasons.

The lounge

You will appreciate the relaxing decor and comfort of the lounge, with patio doors opening directly onto the pool terrace. The French-style decorated ceiling and original oak floor add a touch of authenticity. Books in the library are at your disposal during your stay. A big-screen high-definition television with satellite channels, a Blu-ray DVD player, and a Playstation 3 ensure evenings full of entertainment.

The dining room

The dining table can seat up to 14 people. Like the lounge, the light and airy dining room has patio doors opening onto the pool and the park beyond, and the ceiling and floors are authentic. A wide range of glasses, crockery, and cutlery are at your disposal in the sideboard.

A breakfast corner is conveniently located near the dining table and includes a traditional coffee machine, a Senseo coffee machine, a Nespresso coffee machine, and an electric kettle.

The kitchen

The Château kitchen is fully equipped including :

A laundry room is available with a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. Detergent for the washing machine is provided.
 

The swimming pool

Spend hot afternoons lounging by the pool on one of the sun loungers. The garden table and chairs provide the perfect setting for lunch by the pool or dining outside on balmy summer evenings.

The 6x12m pool is heated and treated with salt. It is open from April 1st to October (exact dates depend on the weather). An automatic cover ensures the safety of young children and helps maintain the water temperature when the pool is not in use. The shallow end is 1 meter deep, gradually deepening to around 1.90 meters.

Our maintenance staff will call by several times during your stay to ensure the upkeep of the pool and the terrace.

(*The swimming pool heating system is an aerothermal heat pump, the most commonly used method for heating an outdoor pool. The pump extracts heat from the air to warm the pool water circulating through it. Consequently, we cannot guarantee that the pool will be warm enough if the air temperature falls below 12 degrees Celsius.)

Wellness house

The Château outbuilding was restored at the end of 2013 in a "Nature & Zen" style and features a sports and body building room, as well as a wellness area.

The Wellness area on the ground floor features a Sauna and Steam-room with a capacity of 6 people each. There is a bathroom with italian style shower, toilet and washbasin.

The sports room on the first floor is equipped with an exercise bike, a rowing machine, a weights machine, dumbells and mats. The wall mounted TV screen with DVD will make your workout more enjoyable !

Board Games

A host of board games, in French, are available in the bookcase located in the lounge : Scrabble, Monopoly, chess, draughts, card games etc...

Television

The château offers 3 televisions and 3 DVD players :

• A high definition giant screen in the lounge, also equipped with Satellite (300 international channels),  a Playstation 3 including a blu-ray DVD player. An internet connection is possible via the Playstation 3.
• A high definition screen in the VIP bedroom, also with its own blu-ray DVD player.
• A wall mounted screen in the gym complete with another DVD player.

Internet

We have wireless internet connection free of charge for your laptop computers and smartphones.

Bicycles

Explore the area by bike ! Four bicycles and two child seats are available for you at no extra charge. 

Boules

A French bowls (Pétanque) lane is at your disposal and 16 "pétanque" bowls can be found at the Château. Have a 'boules' contest  between friends - really great fun ! 

Barbecue

A traditional charcoal fuelled barbecue is situated near the pool.

Bernadette offers a range of services, including cleaning, babysitting, dishwashing, cooking assistance, and more. If you need help keeping the château clean while enjoying your vacation, please do not hesitate to contact her. Her services are available at a rate of 20 euros per hour (all charges included), with a minimum of 4 consecutive hours per intervention.

You can ask Bernadette to prepare breakfast for you. Simply provide her with the money for the shopping list, and she can stop on her way to the château each morning to buy fresh bread and croissants for you.

We recommend the Taxi Lylou transport company. They have a fleet of 6 vehicles including an 8-passenger vehicle and their drivers are located at 5 points in southern Burgundy near our castles. Every Sunday from April to October, many villages in Southern Burgundy host outdoor flea markets. These markets feature locals selling items from their homes, attics, and cellars that they no longer use. You can find antiques and treasures from the past at very affordable prices. - The main Tourist Office is located about 10 minutes away at 4, Place Port Villiers in Chalon-sur-Saône.

- The famous "Restaurant Street" in Chalon sur Saône.
The paved Rue de Strasbourg (address for your GPS) is located on an island on the river Saône in Chalon-Sur-Saône, only 5 minutes from Château de Lans. Locals call this street "The Restaurant Street" because it is lined with about 30 restaurants of various styles, with no shops in between. I can personally recommend "Le Clown Gourmand", for their original cuisine at a good price. Also worth visiting are "Chez Jules" and “Le Bourgogne”.
 
- Restaurant Le St Christophe. Try out some Frogs Legs !
This traditional restaurant is just 6 km away, a 5-minute drive along a peaceful road through the forest. Turn right out of the château and follow the road. One of their specialties, which attracts many locals, is their excellent "Frog Legs"! The quality meals cost around 20 euros per person which represents great value. Be sure to call to book your table.

- Bread and croissants.
The bar/shop in Lans is only 200 meters away (turn right when you come out of the château). You will find bread, croissants, newspapers, tobacco and other basics. It is closed on Wednesdays but there is a bakery on in nearby St Marcel, on the main street.

- Supermarket, petrol station, cash dispenser and pharmacy:
There is a Carrefour Market supermarket in St Marcel 3 minutes away. When coming out of the château turn left and then turn right at traffic light. Follow the road until you find the supermarket is on your left. Open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 7.30pm.
 
- Hypermarket and Shopping Center “CARREFOUR Chalon Sud”.
The biggest Hypermarket of the area is only 5 to 10 minutes away. GPS address : Rue Thomas Dumorey, Chalon sur Saône. Turn left out of the château and left at the first traffic light, then turn right. At roundabout take the 3rd exit and go straight on. The shopping center is on your left.
Open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 9pm.

The Château's Rich History

The Château is essentially a square manor house, but with its two towers at the front, it earns the title of a château. Typical of the mid-19th century style, the château's history actually extends much further back. Over the centuries, it has undergone numerous alterations and was even partially destroyed at one point, followed by an almost complete reconstruction in the 19th century.

During our renovation work, we discovered evidence of habitation since the Middle Ages. The most intact remnant from this period is a vast building with impressive beams, reminiscent of the grain store at Cluny.

In the 12th century, Cluny owned the St Marcel Priory and numerous other properties in the surrounding area. These properties are marked on a 1649 map under the name ‘la Tarte,’ a deformation of ‘tertre,’ meaning a rise in the land (185m above sea level). This is the only elevated area in the Lans region.

It is believed that the property was originally designed with defense in mind, during a time when bandits were common, and security was crucial. The château has been transformed numerous times and has seen many families come and go.

Ancient archives reveal that the château belonged to the Marquise of Thésut from 1582 to 1765. It then passed to the Denon family, whose descendant, Dominique-Vivant Denon (1747-1825), was a renowned Egyptologist and director of the Museums of France. Although he held the title of ‘Lord of Lans,’ Denon, a great traveler, never stayed at the Château de Lans. He participated in the Egypt Campaign and fought in the battles of Austerlitz, Essling, and Eylau, where he lost an arm. Upon his death in 1868, one of his daughters, the Countess of Duranti, rebuilt the château as it stands today. Her son later donated the château to a prominent figure in Châlon-sur-Saône society upon his death in 1886.

His descendants eventually sold the property to Kasteliades in January 2008.
